I'm making a flying dinosaur guitar. Once it's stained, any suggestions for finishes? It has engraved scales so should I just oil...or oil and wax?

Also, check Tru oil that sheet is really nice for this type of jobs

Thank you I'll check that out. I've only used crimson penetrating oil as far as oils go and am not sure it's right for this job. Thanks again!

Consider engraving scales on the headstock to match and use the same finishing.

simonharrycox

That's exactly what I'll be doing. Always good to match those points. Thanks

This is awesome. I paint miniatures, and use washes to get textures to stand out. It may be possible to get a darker color in the grooves and a lighter color on the raised areas. It will be cool no matter how you finish it though.

simonharrycox

Thanks, that's a great tip. So kind of like a shading technique to enhance the effect?

Ch1ldofSatan

Exactly!

Is the bridge in the right place? Looks a bit to flat I don't see compensations for the lower strings

simonharrycox

As if in it's not angled? I've done guitars without before and have been fine. I've noticed there are lots of people for and against this. Any thoughts on the finish for an etched / engraved guitar?
