And yet my molar cracked on an almond
Unfortunately, It was most likely already fractured or weakened from cavities/ previous dental work done.
I’ve seen people break their teeth on bread and stew before. The tooth is already broken, it’s just a matter of WHEN the piece actually breaks off or the crack can be felt to the nerve.
Exactly. I've had the issue twice. Wisdom teeth are very likely to get damaged without any clue, until it collapse and reveal a cave large enough to store half an Amazon storage.
I literally have a semi-regular nightmare just like that. I’m over here shivering.
Is there a dental school near you? If so, check with them. You’ll be a training dummy for students, but it’s free/low cost.
Had similar a few years ago, except my wisdom teeth that I'd never had removed applied so much pressure to my other molars that multiple of them cracked amd broke off. I got used to it and lived like that for awhile.
Eventually went and had to have 10(10!) teeth pulled, the 4 wisdom and 6 other molars. No insurance, but it was the best $4,000 I ever spent. ;)
I just had **2** molars taken out and it was 5 grand, I had to pay half, where did you get it so damn cheap
A dental school, or a free dental clinic. Some dentists also charge on a scale for those without insurance. You should really look around and see what’s available. A tooth extraction won’t set you back more than $100 at any dentist.
Bubble gum here
*raises hand back of room*
Deep breath did me in...
Thats really scary. Imagone choking on a tooth
Ever pull a filling out with gum? Or get tinfoil on a filling? Or - ...ok sorry I'll stop..
How do I delete someone else's comment
*Laughs in no filling at 25 y*
I pulled out a whole tooth with gum, by accident. And the whole tin foil on a filling hurts.
I had a filling fall out right as I was drinking vanilla coke. Something about the vanilla flavor plus the acidity and metallic taste of coke at the same time, hitting that exposed nerve. I have never drank vanilla coke since. I still like floats though.
The gum did pull out shards of tooth though. The tooth basically crumbled as I bit into the gum. I then had to be careful not to cut my cheek chewing until I could get an appointment lined up.
My dad cracked his tooth after eating the unpopped kernels of popcorn for years like a psychopath
I had a filling fall out while chewing gum. It was very dumb
Shoulda drunk more milk
Tell me you're vegan without telling me you're vegan
But milk is pretty fucking great tho
If you ever want to try quitting calf feed try oat milk, it's very similar. I much prefer it but never really liked cows milk anyway
I like oat milk but when I use it for oatmeal I get the same uneasy feeling I get when I think too much about chicken fingers. I feel guilty for wiping out the entire family for one meal.
Would it help if I told you chickens can still survive without fingers?
You should try bull's milk - protein dense.
Is that the kind in the silver and blue can?
This is all I drink as well, but might switch to oatmilk or soymilk as u/tsparks1307 makes a valid point.
You're worried about the environmental impact of cow's milk, but ignore the impact almond milk has? [Here's an article](https://sustainability.ucsf.edu/1.713) from UCSF about it. While cow's milk is obviously the bigger polluter, the impact almond milk has is worth noting.
Dairy milk still has a much worse impact on greenhouse gases which is a much more pressing issue than water usage. Yeah it's the most water intensive but aside from that it's generally a better alternative. Always good to try soy and oat milk too, just don't over consume which leads to issues regardless. If the regular dairy you consume comes from a sustainable source usually from a local farmer's market then that's better than any of the options.
I still like milk over Almond milk, it’s what I was raised with so bygones are bygones
I mean, I was raised drinking milk and I find it disgusting. Unseewetend almond milk is much better imo. Especially blended with fruit or with meal replacements. I may have been raised that way but boy was that way wrong.
Ugh fuck no
milk is awful
I use milk for making kefir and yogurt only, I can't stand it in its natural state.
Cut out the milk, eat the cow
Forget that, I eat bone.
I don't know the name of the bird without google but there is a vulture that only eats bones. They break the bones apart by dropping them on rocks and then they just gulp it down.
Do you mean [lammergeiers?](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bearded_vulture)
I love chewing the end off chicken bones and sucking the juice out. It's delicious. I steal my wife's chicken bones.
Marrow doesnt count!
Osteoclasts/osteoblasts are a specific type of cell. Not a classification of things?
Source ? I studied biology and medicine and no one told me that lol
So you're telling me humanity was destroying their bones for centuries?
Bro I drink it every night. Should I stop????
> Cut out an over farmed polluting middleman.
Got it. Chews some grass. Doesn't like...
He was actually drinking almond milk
Yooooooo thanks for the laugh!!!
i broke a tooth eating a cheese danish
In the males, the biting force value of those aged 13-16 gradually increased with age, and the maximal biting force values of incisor, bicuspid, and first molar of all the males were 43.3kg, 99.11kg, and 120.66kg respectively.
Maybe they should start making hydraulic presses out of almonds.
Ugh my teeth hurt just looking at this.
I somehow substituted “teeth” for “feet” in my mind and had to reread the comment a few times to figure out that I had.
u/QueenCuttleFish used confusion, it's super effective!!
Only slightly less pressure than my mother in law puts on me.
Are you still on Reddit?! Go cum inside my daughter and make me a grandchild!
But is she jewish though?
You are excused
No, u/Deemaunik is first.
I get down voted for saying excuse me, but not like pardon, but excuse me what the fuck is that sentence?
Welcome to reddit!
I know what Reddit is, it’s Twitter but mentally slower
It’s a bold strategy Cotton, let’s see if it pays off for him.
“It will seem as if I will not”
Lmao what did you do for all the downvotes im laughing, you have annoyed a shaman who has cursed you with downvotes
That's just typical bad mother/mother in law behaviour
I'm not sure why this got downvoted so hard. The human species is fickle 🧐 *puffs on pipe*
Give her a DAMN baby already! *it doesn’t have to be yours*
I was waiting for it to burst at 125! I can’t believe how much that tooth took!
That was on a single pressure point, too. If the top was ground flat or even repositioned to have multiple points of contact, I’d guess it would be even more impressive.
I think grinding the top flat would make it easier to break the tooth. If they made a steel fitting for the press with a thin layer of a soft polymer to fill in the micro gaps from the tolerance would yield a much higher number while still representing reality when biting something with less hardness of the tooth.
More shocking to me is that the tooth seems to begin to compress before breaking. A small space is visible on the left of the tooth between itself and the press in the beginning, but it shrinks away.
It made it to 635kg in the end before smashing
Now do sugar
Now do meth.
Now do math
Now do or do not
Now do me
Sir this is a wendys
Perfect, I'll have a cheeseburger and coke whilst i bend over.
Your username should be a real thing.
OK WHAT NOW
NOW SELL EVERYTHING YOU OWN FOR MORE METH
Where is the pop?
There was supposed to be an Earth-shattering kaboom!
That’s actually wild! But couldn’t they have at least let that fucker pop
The tooth won lol
Exactly, what's the point otherwise
Presses test to failure. If the tester senses the material giving way, it will automatically stop because the item being tested has reached its max and its not worth testing it further. So the tooth didn't have to explode or be crushed into dust or anything. Even a simple crack can cause the tester to stop and record the highest pressure the object took. You *could* have the tester go more, but since the tooth already failed, it wouldn't reach that highest point again. I've used tons of testing equipment before. It's surprising how strong some everyday items are!
Why would you even do that? You enamel!!
[this](https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/nwcjgo/hydraulic_press_vs_human_tooth/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) is getting posted every couple
Of days just making it’s rounds between all the “interesting” related subs
Yes, such is the nature of reddit
The tooth fairy: like and subscribe for more hydraulic tooth press videos🧚🏼♀️
The human jaw can bite down with up to 125kg of force towards the back teeth. So it stands to reason that our teeth are designed much more than that so we don't wreck our teeth chomping down on tough foods
Makes sense. I was wondering if our jaws could even withstand that much pressure as it started to get higher.
The kilogram is not a unit of force, it's a unit of mass. The press should show force in newtons. A "kilogram of force" (one kilogram at 1g, earth's average gravitational acceleration) is about 9.81 newtons.
Believe it or not, I am not a bot, just a pedant.
So we’re looking at 2,795.85 Newtons here?
You got that right, Jack!
(Although, to be pedantic, the .85 part is probably overly specific. The readout in the video didn't have that many significant digits, in fact it was in increments of 5kg, so we should probably say that it's most likely somewhere between 2770N and 2820N) (also, that's using the approximation of 9.81m/s/s as the acceleration of gravity. It really depends on where on earth the measurement is taking place).
All this is why I use pounds.
Also depends on whether the Earth had a big lunch.
So what you’re saying is, since we can assume this is on earth, your pedantic statement is irrelevant for understanding the amount of force exerted on the object, as the conversion to newtons can easily be done if anyone cares, but if they aren’t familiar with newtons then kg at earth gravity is far easier for the public to understand?
Do they really understand it though? If they don't understand that mass and force are two different things, they don't understand shit, they just think they understand it. Would you measure volume in square meters? It's not a matter of accuracy, it's a fundamental misunderstanding of what's being measured. The fact that "the public" is illiterate doesn't excuse it.
FFS, I copped to being pedantic in the original comment, but you just had to chime in with a defense of ignorance. Congratulations, you're a true Champion of the People.
Anyone else hear: "Welcam to de haudralic press channnell."
It's comforting to know they're so strong
Yes they are. But being a dentist has taught me to be really careful chewing and avoid biting with more force on something hard. I’ve seen plenty of people with no history of cavities or other dental problems split their teeth like logs of wood eating hard foods and sadly need their first extraction. Or just break off a chunk and need a crown, which is expensive and not so fun to go through. Be careful chewing!
Velloukum too ze hydroooooolik bress chennel
Nope, dont like that.
So basically a small horse can stand on your wisdom tooth without it breaking. That's insane.
all that power
and we just rip them out
I wish there was a way to compare. How much weight is a dog bite, a firefighter hose or similar to understand how much 285 kg of pressure are
My face tingles watching this
Did... did I just witness that wisdom tooth just beat a hydrolic press......
This made me so uncomfortable. I could feel my teeth being pushed on.
My tooth would have crumpled like a paper bag
I have a dentist appointment in 6 hours because this is exactly what my skull feels like right now.
Just remove all your teeth; problem solved.
I'm almost at that point. Been on nothing but soup and ice cream for three days already, wtf do I need teeth for anyway.
They’re built handle the strongest of materials yet sugar rips right through them.
Yeah but we don't have metal gums
They're that strong, yet they degrade when you don't brush them enough
The weight isn’t even distributed along the entire tooth. All of the pressure is on that right side peak for most of this.
Why does that make my back teeth hurt when I watch it? yeouch!
I curled my lips over watching this
Did he just go to a dentist and say, can I have one of those teeth?
O wise tooth, tell me your secrets.
628.3 lbs for fellow Americans
They don't all weigh that much, Bud
BOOM! Good one.
Whatever, where’s my Vicodin?
Shit where's my oxy. When I got mine out my doctor really hooked it up.
You guys are getting pain medication?
Yeah sure but I get anxious, clench my jaw, and suddenly these bitches chipped and cracking
I'm pissed to that I didn't get to watch it shatter
This hurt me... But it also makes me very happy
So why did mine break on an Arby’s fry?
ah yes, the most common household item a wisdom tooth
Try a popcorn kern instead.
I feel like completing this would be NSFL for some people
Who else has dreams of their teeth shattering and falling out
That's nå unrealistic number tho since it's only on the one edge.. i believe you could easily double it if you spread the pressure over the entire surface of the tooth.
velkom to the hydrolik press channel
today, ve gon krush wisdom teeth...and her ve go!
I once broke a tooth eating jello
They should just get a better hyrdraulic press
Fuck! That gave me anxiety!
Next do a jawbreaker
For um science
Welcome to the hydraulic press channel where today we press wisdom tooth
Square cube law explains a lot to why teeth are that resistant to pressure like that
Damn, knew I should've kept mine..
What is the point of wisdom teeth? I know the mix of genetics has made them difficult for most people to have room in their mouths... but why do we get teeth coming jn later in early adulthood??
Thanks now my 🦷 hurt
No wonder that fucker was so difficult to get out. Fuck these guys man
This hurts to watch
Lmao forgot I got a dentist appointment
I was waiting for it to burst
That just gave me the heebie jeebies...as I am munching on SweetTarts.
still can't handle yo mama
Ever eat an Italian hoagie? Stick a fennel seed on top of it then press it.
Coolest shit I've seen in a long time
627 lbs for you folks still using imperial system
And I get arrested for stealing wisdom teeth and crushing them?
I had all of my teeth pulled, finally, it feels amazing, but I can *hear* that tooth cracking lol heard so many breaking
We should build buildings out of teeth.
Smartfood took me down. Munchin away all high and happy and seed of death took my mini molar in half. so fuck popcorn
Thanks. I needed this info
Lowkey. I couldn’t watch this to completion. My anxiety is too bad. Shoutout to y’all that could. Brave selves.
Mirror neurons freaking out.
This made the holes in my jaw hurt.
