Match Thread: Alexander Zverev vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas | 2021 French Open Men's Semifinal
By - rafaknight
I just took a nap and now is 4:0?!
Djokosmash. What a classic.
What the fuck was that Djokovic.
I just hope he isn't gassed for the final. He was really gassed against Med after that epic against Rafa at the AO
I think compared to the AO 5 setter, this was not too bad? Although the 3 and 4 sets were really unnecessary, but hopefully he learned some things from those.
Balkans vs Spain
Bro this Eurosport analysis is quality
I WAS LITERALLY CRYING FEELING HIS EMOTIONS, and I am not even a Tsitsipas fan. Such a wholesome moment.
crying in the club
Mischa admits he gave sascha advice during the match even tho he's a reporter uhh...
Zverev couldn't put himself in RG final :(
0-40 is the new 40-15 for Zverev
I think because he looks like he’s mid 20s at least it’s easy to forget Stef is only 22.
Tsitsipas' last 8 clay court tournaments:
Roland Garros SF
Monte Carlo W
Roland Garros F+
Honestly he had an awesome season on clay.
What's Nadal's record against Djokovic in RG? I can remember only one defeat.
Nadal has only 2 defeats his entire career. One to djoko and one to soderling
Like.. 7-1? 2006, 2007, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2020 were all wins for Rafa
5-1 I think?
hey you'd better shut your fuck up
i'd put myself in there
Btw why was Djoker so angry after his QF?
Imagine being dominant for two sets, serving 5-4 in the third set TB, losing that set, waiting a long time for the crowd to get out due to curfew, not being able to break until you have multiple match points, not converting them until your rival makes an unforced error... and all of that to play against a well-rested Nadal.
I would be frustrated too.
I'm only now watching it, and I'm shook! :O
he was just pumped
He said he was just tense.
I see thanks
Have been following him ever since he stunned Federer in 2019 AO. Hopefully this first of many more GS final for this guy.
Tsiti has a good chance against Novak with his shot making like today. Against Nadal it will be really hard. Nadal's loopy FH will bring out the worst in Tsitsi BH.
Who will win Rafole?
So I guess I’m calling in sick tomorrow…
That didn't seem super grueling as far as clay court 5 setter. I think the impact of match length on further performance is overstated.
Also, he's only 22, I'm assuming his body will recover much faster too.
Mischa is totally nonplussed that his bro lost lol
"Do it for the love of the country" if anyone is wondering.
Long live stranger, now I can sleep peace... wait, there is Nodal
Class act from him
Straight tears - Tsitsi had me so emotional
Getting the loss in the Final tears out of the way then I see
Must be fun being a Canadian fan rn eh?
Bruh, you suck. Just leave and go watch Rafole or... Bianca.
You're just such an incredibly negative person. Every single comment of yours is negative. Go find some positivity.
Best possible outcome for the tournament is for this match to go 5 sets too
I love these moments during Roland Garros when we make up scenarios in our heads while already knowing Nadal will always win. Most predictable tournament of all time.
Chapter 58: Butchery time.
Mischa Zverev having to analyse the match 😬
Imagine if Sakkari managed to pull off yesterday. Celebrations in Greece will be uncanny.
Man someone get these match analysts outta here. We don’t wanna relive this
Oh my god you've been non-stop bitching this entire thread. You must be fucking miserable to be around.
Must be your first tennis match. Congrats.
Man. Tsits made me way way too nervous today
Ah yes my favourite quote "Do it for the love of the_" It's open to interpretation. He truly is a Greek philosopher
Game? Federer said the same thing after his last win :)
It's confirmed it was country. Love him even more for that
Just add what you love. I do it for the love of the thought of living alone, for example.
This is so me rn
Wonderful moment for Stef and the sport. I have a feeling We will be referring back to this Tournament many years down the road. He’s really made me a fan in the last few months, I’m pulling for him.
Should be a great Final
Kinda hilarious to see Mischa having to analyze why his brother lost. An uncomfortable position to be in I guess.
Was great to see his emotion. This win should mean a lot and he really deserved to make a GS final.
Mischa secret coach. Give him a fine already
getting into a rg final alone is very rewarding why are yall trying to discredit him by saying he will be obliterated etc he obviously is the underdog
Main event just before my bedtime
Screw you RG
You'll love to find out that there's some ceremony taking place before the match.
STOP THE CEREMONY
Love that acknowledgement with Sakkari and the Greek fans and the community who are surely show passion. Lovely moment.
Do it for the love of inspirational quotes.
Approx how long do we wait now
What did he wroteeeeeeeeeeee????????????????????
NGL I did a little cry
Imagine if he writes "Tits" on the camera.
For the love of the sport maybe?
6-3 6-3 4-6 4-6 6-3 This scoreline cures my OCD
What did he write on the camera?
Time for the real final, am I right guys
Bet you all feel like fucking idiots
We will never know for the love of what
Yes I cried a little and I'm not even know the guy...just a stranger to me...f**k I cringed my self again
I'm so looking forward to the final. It's going to be amazing
Feel bad for mischa having to talk about this lol
Thanks camera guy, very cool
Tsitsipas won the NextGen half
Let's do it for the..(?)
love of the ... (?)
Let's do it for the love of the what??!
love of the duck
Stefanos writing a full essay on the camera.
Wow does Stefanos like Bartoli that much to consider her his lucky charm?
Tsitsipas getting the crying after the Final loss out of the way early.
Good thing there isn't another match today - it wouldn't be the French Open without a 45 minute on-court press conference after every match.
Can we all agree that Novak or Rafa will beat Tsitsi easily? Or some give him any chance?
Tsitsipas can beat Rafa on clay. He keeps improving while Djokovic is declining so I think he has a better chance than Novak.
There’s a chance he can pull it off. He’s come so close before. I’d be one nervous Rafole fan come Sunday is all I’m saying.
Sometimes a match like this pushes a player to another level. Whether that match is a level enough for Rafa or Novak is another thing.
Last match against both was a tough 3 set.
I don't see Rafa loosing to Stefanos, but Djokovic could.
I’d give him a decent chance vs Djokovic but I can’t see him beating Nadal
Tsitsi took a set off of Rafa in Barcelona so there is always a chance.
He will get creamed
Depends on how this match goes
Guys it's just a matter of time, we love to joke about next gen players, but the moment they'll take over is getting closer and closer.
Stefanos somehow defeating Nadal or Nole in the final would be seen as the most definyng moment for the next generation.
Inb4 the final is 3 sets for rafa or novak
let's say I wouldn't bet on Stefanos. But I would be happy to see him winning. New era will start eventually.
Hope you're right! I'd be happy if we wins a set
But it won't happen though
I don't care what happens in the final. It's going to be a less stressful match for us Tsitsifans and for him too I am sure being the underdog
You say that now, until he goes up one set and then every stroke you will be holding your breath.
Hahaha that's right. Until we get that small glimpse of hope that he can win.
Ohhhh yes, whatever happens I will be happy with. Just wanted him to be in the final.
Same here. He's proven himself to be legit and in today's match he did it in the most fitting way possible. Snapped back and came to win it,didn't put the foot off the gas and showed his mental strength. I'm so happy for him especially after THAT 2019 match that broke him
Right! He is still so young, and he is a fast learner. I feel good about his future.
Props to the translator, I would forget half of what he said and just make up something on the fly lol
Yea they did just that lol
Those sneaky french! >:(
Djokodal: Yeah yeah yeah I get you're emotional but STFU and let us get on court
Let 👏the 👏 main👏 event 👏 begin 👏
more than one way to express joy
I need to hear from the Tsitsipas supporters who think Tsitsipas will win the Final
I think he can beat Djokovic, but not Rafa
yay one response!
Shut your fuck up and just go away.
His hair is fabulous
Why doesnt Marion ask him how he feels on having to play Rafa on Sunday?
Has there been any player who said "tbh I don't give a shit about my country"?
I'd love for someone to break out something unexpectedly deep like "countries are artificial constructs, we are all people"
I would definitely say something like this.
Taylor townsend maybe after what the usta put her through
That would be hilarious ngl.
He’s so emotional, it’s great. Just wish he would’ve said “thank you” - it seems like he’s trying to say it but can’t find the words lol
They should let Stefanos win the final. The Greek economy could use some prize money...
Monaco says hello.
This interview is really endearing, but really long. Wrap it up, please.
Stef is a massive underdog now which I think he’ll prefer.
Yep. I think he will do well in the final. Maybe not win, but well.
Your flair is so great.
Yours is incredible
If he can keep his composure, he will be a great contender for the title. Its all mental in the finals against the greatest.
I think the fact that this match went to 5 sets really hurts Tsitsipas' chances.
I agree, it comes down to mental fortitude — BUT of all the slams, RG v Rafa demands an ironclad mental game as well as the best clay court tennis one could possibly play.
I wish Tsitsipas all the best and would love to see him hold the crown, but hope he knows there is serious prep to do in the 48 hours until final.
Zverev’s now 0-10 against top ten players in slams.
Maybe in Wimbledon he’ll get his first top ten win?
Maybe if he plays Diego somehow.
Awww he mentioned Maria
See ya’ll in the other thread
So happy for stefanos. I hope he does well in the final
Why am I crying??
SAKKARI SHOUT OUT
OLYMPICS MIXED GOLD MEDALLISTS INCOMING!
Love that he mentions Maria
Some people really like to discredit the WTA
Tsitsipas actually grew up looking up to Maria. As funny as that sounds, he was a big fan of hers because she was a Greek tennis player who broke through on the tour before he did and she was the only one.
He used to be in her instagram comments a lot when he was a junior which was kinda sweet.
i’m tearing up watching this post match interview
Damn, he mentioned Maria.
Can't wait for the press conference
OH MY GOD END THE INTERVIEW ALREADY FOR GOD'S SAKE
I'm a Rafa fan but the world doesn't revolve around the big 3. The man reached his first GS final. Let him have his moment ffs.
Do you even know why I want to interview to be shorter?
1. The interviews are long and tiring to listen too, especially with the translations. The questions have been rubbish too.
2. They've already cocked up the scheduling and now run the risk of having to play the end of the second semi final in an emtpy stadium. Literally nobody wants that.
I've been moaning about the interviews all tournament. Stop assuming pls.
Youngest man to make a GS final since Andy Murray at the 2010 Aus Open & youngest at Roland Garros since Rafa Nadal in 2008
Stef: “I’m not crying. You are!”
No Stef, we all are.
Whoever you face in the Final, Stef.. you have my condolences.. T_T
Apparently there is a ceremony before the Djokovic-Nadal match, they really want to finish with empty stands don't they...
This is so wholesome. I love it. :')
I want Bartoli to say random things in French while I sleep.
Why people hate Zverev? I am not his fan, actually I don't know much about these players, just interesting in the reason for it.
Just read this and you’ll get why, this is his ex girlfriend Olya Sharapova’s story about the abuse she endured from him
His arrogance and the allegations against him
His attitude, his persona, his sleeveless top and his off-court antics.
he’s a mental midget, partied openly during COVID, just very immature and not likeable at all. the assault allegations don’t help his case either, though they’re unproven
edit: the partying during COVID is just an indicator of his character. he’s also never beaten a top 10 player at a slam, just super disappointing as a prospect, and my sense is that people are just over him
He beats women
People think he is a woman abuser because of some accusations by his ex
Alleged domestic abuse
Plus he's an annoying, mentally weak, whiny, entitled brat.
