Where is borna coric?
He had shoulder surgery in May. No idea when he's planning to be back on tour
Both Osaka and Krejcikova saved match points to win slams this year. Naomi in R4 against Muguruza and Barbora in semifinal against Sakkari.
Anyone still having PTSD over last night?
Best kit of the tournament?? For me it was the Lacoste Medvedev and the men's double finalists were wearing. I dunno why, just think they looked really good.
Kenin and Fila
Agree. Lacoste is the best. Classy and timeless and you get this elegant tennis player vibe. The worst for me was the pink-white Fila kit from Schwartzman or Opelka. Looked like a beach outfit and I felt like somewhere there was a surfboard missing.
Anyone watched recently some extended unnoficial highlights from Djokovic VS Tsitsipas RG 2020 semifinal and could share the link? I can't seem to find a decent one
Not the best quality though.
Awesome, thank you.
I meant Novak-Tsitsi last year, not Novak-Rafa this year. But thanks anyway, I might watch that too
Ha sorry I misread that !
Every RG final except for boys singles/doubles featured at least one player from Russia or with a Russian parent:
* Andreeva (Girls Singles)
* Siniakova (WD)
They all lost. In girls doubles there were Russians from both sides so won't count. Will Siniakova and Tsitsipas lose tomorrow?
Main takeaway, it's best to lose the doubles final as you get a trophy each when the winners get just one cup.
Bublik- Golubev finally left the stage for the Champions. They were enjoying the limelight for sure.
Mahut is giving a presser right now.
But what a wonderful one.
I´m already looking forward to the rambling never-ending speech from Stefanos, win or lose.
"Well, it all started when I was born..."
"...several previous lives ago"
A Wimbledon crowd would have laughed at those jokes...
English proficiency isn't the best in France.
Try speaking French as an Englishman and see what happens!
As a Frenchman trying to speak English, I know all too well it's not easy to speak another language.
Je parle 5 langues. En Asie, c'est le cas avec la plupart de la population.
Golubev and Bublik is a mood hahaha
These Kazakh guys are funny!
Oh my. The emotions. A pure beautiful moment for Mahut and Herbert. It's heartfelt! Love the moment of affection and respect. Happy tears. Behind them are French fans cheering for them. It's beautiful.
Omg that impromptu acapella La Marseillaise 💙❤️
Personally I find these somewhat disorganised RG ceremonies so much more affecting than any of the other slams
Hahaha Bublik with "Putain" :D That's so Bublik
I will never not love Bublik
La Marseillaise a cappella, Mahut in tears...
PHH is 30? Time flies
I think part of what makes Herbert Mahut so magnetic is just how much they want it - they wear their emotions so rawly.
The doubles game is full of singles guys rolling the dice and on some level trying to have fun - sometimes they check out emotionally, stop communicating etc...never these two. these guys WANT IT.
Herbert/Mahut are now the fifth winningest pair with this fifth Grand Slam. (tied with 3 others pairs). Top European pairs with Eltingh-Haarhuis.
Congrats Herbert and Mahut! such a likable duo
Finally some happiness for me during this tournament ✋😩I love this for them
For as horrendous this Roland-Garros has been, France finishes with the titles in mens double, junior boy single (last four were French) and junior boy doubles.
Really happy for them. This tournament has thrown me for a loop so this result was very welcome.
So what happened in that first set for Herbert and Mahut to fall a set behind and facing defeat late in the second? I was in the garden for much of it but they looked so much the better from what I saw.
It was error city for Herbert at the net and Golubev was playing extremely well.
I can’t tell which choke was worse Cabal Farah in the semis or Golubev Bublik in the final
Man this bottlejob <<<
Should have won it in straights ffs
Another Mahut-Herbert hug nice!
Congrats to Herbert and Mahut! Love to see them do well
wait when did Mahut un-retire?
He retired from simples, not doubles
That makes sense
He retired from singles kinda, but never retired in doubles. He still did play singles recently at the 2021 atp cup.
There was a farewell for him on this court with his son. Was that not for retirement?
It was, for singles. However, he came back in the atp cup as a substitute due to injury, and seems to want to keep playing now.
Going the fed route.
Ah, got it
I don't remember him retiring?
He retired from singles. In the ATP cup he was playing as a substitute because Monfils injured.
I swear I saw his farewell on this court once. He was on the court with his son crying
He never has.
It’s better to enjoy a Bublik match without worrying about the result
Just like he himself does.
I should have done that from the start. I made the mistake of picturing Bublik as the first next gen GS champion lol
Golubev's serve is better than Bublik's. At least from consistency PoV.
Ah shit it'll be Herbert serving for the match
Even if they lose, then Bublik serves to remain. Mahut/Herbert W is NID at this point.
I'm not so sure
So what choke is the chokest, Karatsev in mixed or Bublik now?
Bublik´s. He was 2 points away from the trophy.
This one. Aslan wasn't serving for the match so not really choked.
Does anyone know of any kind of promo code for tennis TV? I feel like they do a sale around Christmas time but kinda wanted to re-up now before the grass season
Gotta give Bublik props for the willingness to scramble.
Feels like a typical Bublik match. Has all the chances, many BPs, manages to fuck this up.
BP Herbert/Mahut, ace Bublik
Herbert finally with a great serve game omf
Important hold for Golubev/Bublik
Important game. A break of the Golubev serve could be decisive.
Cilic has been playing really well recently. Props to him, and glad that his loss to Roger didn't bring him down.
40-40, Bublik is bad at net now.
0-30 on Golubev serve now. Momentum changed
What has Veljovic done to her face
BublikGolubev 2 BPs
Mahut Herbert should have lost in the semis, I can’t believe they’re actually going to come back twice to win. Ridic
Where are you guys watching the match? Tennis TV is only showing a replay of the women's match for me.
Bublik has been tagged 3 times since he hit Mahut - ironically Bublik did apologise but the Frenchmen haven't apologised once
Noticed that too.
Went away at 5-4 and them serving for the match. How did they lose their service?
because it was Bublik who served for it lol
Yep. They would have won if Golubev was serving
But it was Golubev who netted two volleys
Wow that first point of the third set haha, crazy reflex
GOAT doubles tennis from the BubGol.
Bublik constantly going for the net person is too high risk and is not paying off now
Grinning ear to ear. These two are fucking mustard.
I like Bublik and will feel for him if they lose but there's something magnetic about the Herbert/Mahut partnership
This tiebreak has been excellent
Fair play PHH. Played like shit all day but came through there.
Oof, life comes at you fast.
Herbert/Mahut would be favourites in a third set, right?
Yup, momentum firmly changed.
Bublik and Golubev look shellshocked
That service game was maybe the explanation why Bublik has 0 titles in singles and doubles.
How did Golubev bottle so many volleys in that game
Golubev is really solid. Bublik is having a lot of fun
Now this is getting exciting :D
Bublik is insufferable and rude, I will make sure I root against him in the future.
Is he really rude though? He's definitely a bit of a cocky c*nt but I feel it's usually all in good fun
That's the best description of Bublik I have seen
Come ooooon Mahbert, take this to 3. I have nothing else to do.
Haha wtf Bublik, you just had to throw 4 aces
And they’re broken
What a brain fart.
Bublik DF on BP, as always. Underarm time? Not found.
Lol what the fuck is Bublik doing
Bublik on his knees while Golubev smashes xDDD
Bublik is actually pretty skilled at doubles! Now serving for the championship
Bublik/Golubev serve for the title!
Bublik to serve for the title!
Wow. Bublik-Golubev to serve for the championship
Herbert continues to shit the bed
BTW, the best "native Kazakh" male tennis player is Grigorii Lomakin #794, and even he is a Russian by ethnicity. The best true Kazakh Dostanbek Tashbulatov is #897. They are importing Russian players and it works.
In WTA is the best "native Kazakh", Zarina Diyas?
This isn't high quality doubles, but it sure is entertaining doubles.
Watching Bublik playing the RG double final makes me think.. Have we examples of underhand serves in doubles ?
Id assume no, because bringing your opponent in to the net isn't a great idea in doubles
No, because there is a player at the net.
Does that matter? I thought that only the player being served to can return it.
Well I don't remember the rules exactly, then maybe it makes sense
Bublik / Golubev and Herbert/Mahut exchange breaks
Herbert needs to wake up. Mahut is playing brilliantly and his partner is letting him down atm
Right on cue!
We are one set away from Bublik, grand slam champion
What a touch by Bublik..
Any french speakers able to explain what that Mahut-Bublik spat was about?
Bublik was upset that he wasn't ready and slowed him down.
Thanks. Seems like the match upped in intensity from that moment
This dubs match is a riot. I'm so glad I did the Peacock trial for this.
doubles stream pls
Set Bublik/Golubev. Best of 3, so they're one set away from a GS.
2 SP Bublik/Golubev
Cheeky tweener :)
any link for the doubles final? sportsbay not working for me
Look up one of the links for the women final
Interesting question to y’all: what do you think of a Sampras-Nadal match up
I can’t see Nadal winning anywhere except on clay. Considering how far he was ahead of the competition when he retired at a relatively young age, people often discount Sampras’ greatness.
It depends on so many things - their ages in the match-up, 1990s grass or 2010s grass, fast or slow hard, how high bouncing, etc. etc.
Bublik fails to serve for the set but Golubev will have a try next time. 3-5
Is it a coincidence that in each GS doubles final there is a top but predominantly singles player (Swiatek, Karatsev, Bublik?)
No, it is the giant spaghetti monster's will
Bublik-Golubev are playing really well vs the veterans. Up 2 breaks
Bublik is gonna win a Grand Slam today XD
Alexander Bublik will serve for the first set in the Grand Slam Final.
I see you won't have a match thread for Bublik/Golubev vs Herbert/Mahut, lol...
Mahut probably isn't going to be on tour much longer and I'm going to miss him when he isn't around. He is one of those players that just seems to produce interesting moments.
bublik's thsirt is so damn ugly
My commentator says that Bublik looks like he’s still in his pyjamas 🤣
Lopez and Sinner pairing up for Queens doubles 👀
Sounds cool to me, Jannik can learn a lot from Feli’s experience, especially on grass
Amusingly named British wildcard Ryan Peniston is currently a set all against world number 158 Marc-Andrea Huesler in the qualies of Queen's club. If he wins, it will be the highest ranked player he's ever beaten in a completed match (won by retirement vs number 88 Tomic in 2019).
When is the men’s doubles starting guys?
I was slaughtered for saying this on this thread yesterday that Nadal’s will to fight on his weakest surface is nowhere near Djokovic’s will to fight on his weakest surface
Today morning , we are waking up to headlines of Nadal wanting to skip the grass season. Go figure.
ATP Halle Singles 1st round:
Khachanov - Rublev
FAA - Hurkacz
ATP Halle doubles 1st round:
Khachanov / Rublev - FAA / Hurkacz
oof FAA vs Cilic for the stuttgart title, heart says FAA mind says 0-8 record in finals
Does anyone know what Krejcikova wrote in Czech on the camera after her big win?
Translated: Czechia you are the best support
I forgot the Serena won both Singles and Doubles in 2016 Wimbledon. What an amazing feat!
I hope Krejcikova achieves the same tomorrow.
Looking at this Queens draw, there's strong potential for chaos haha. Who's your pick to win? Lopez gonna fuck around and win a 3rd title?
Berrettini in theory stands above these guys, but if not then Karatsev? Haven't even seen him play grass lol. I'd pick Opelka but he gets consistently beaten by De Minaur (granted not in great form), Lopez seems unlikely to get past Shapo, and Shapo seems too haphazard vs Sinner/Karatsev/Bublik.
For Halle, I like Agut's chances. He's got those SF points to defend at Wimbledon, so this is good practice - he can beat most of the folks in his half (Zverev TBD).
The reason you haven't seen Karatsev play grass is because he's only played 5 grass court matches in his career, losing 4 of them.
Wimbledon 2014 qualies, lost first round
Stuttgart 2015 qualies, lost first round
Ilkley challenger 2015, lost first round
Wimbledon 2015 qualies, won first round 9-7 in the third, lost second round
Who was the lady singing
France's Eurovision contestant this year
She nearly won Eurovision, came third. I liked her song, though dunno if the sound really travels well in Philip Chartier
Came in second place*
What was the French song that lady performed?
Voila it’s the French Eurovision song from this year
How entertaining is the men’s doubles final projected to be?
Very, watch the semifinals highlights on YouTube if you want to get invested and hyped
Krejcikova has such a great backstory, I am sad for Pavlyuchenkova but I am so happy to see her achieve this great feat
I just watched that match point 6 times and that ball was clearly in. Pavyluchenkova got robbed there.
What does Hawkeye say
They didn't show a Hawkeye replay but that ball was quite obviously in.
They showed Hawkeye on eurosport and it was out
I am hoping we get another two years out of Roger, and at least Five more years of Nadal and Novak, We just lived the most amazing 20 years of tennis in history, I would be up for purchasing Complete boxset, In my dreams it would be something like this:
(New media could come, 4k/Blu Ray DVD...)
*20 of The best Matches of The big 3, Including Winning Speeches.
*5 Other great matches of all time, that may be before the year 2006 or higher quality video
*This product would be created after the year 2025, a separate documentary and cinematic film of all the rivalries.
*All 3 players sitting together with some banter and description of the match about to be shown,
*Matches with the most relevant commentary..
Hopefully this can happen! The rights would be a bit of a nightmare though....
I would pay $150 for the Boxset, would you? What would it include?
Apparently Rafa limped towards his car when leaving this morning? Not looking good for Wimbledon...
Bit of a 'trust me bro' source, I know 😂 but apparently they showed a short clip on Eurosport
