HOW DARE YOU I AM A MOTHER
WHO DOWNVOTED ME? HOW DARE YOU I AM A MOTHER
Lots of comments about surfaces. I like a variety in playing style, but don't really like the instability on grass and clay in terms of footing. Since we have the ability to make hard courts fast as grass or slow as clay, would people like a hard court only world? But keeping different tournaments with different speeds to have variety?
I would like it if there were less hardcourts.
I think the instability is interesting. Clay can get some insane court coverage once people learn to slide, and seeing good footwork on grass is always nice. Along with that, there are factors of bounce height and variability which allow different playstyles to succeed. Having only hardcourt would be really boring in my opinion.
That's what I'm saying, we can engineer the hard courts for higher and lower bounces, with safety of good footing. I'd say for every ball that someone slides to, they also miss one from changing direction and slipping.
Yeah but thats what makes the game interesting - movement heavily changes the strategy on the courts. Most of the falls I've seen have not caused injury, (and none of the players have complained about injury concerns from either surface), so im all for the instability.
I love that a tournament ended yesterday, that was pretty much made up of losers of RG. Basically a consolation bracket.
What advice did the winner receive? ^(kidding I know you meant consolation)
Looks like the Wimby final will have a full crowd, will be good to hear the noise https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/57473711
I find it really funny how Feliciano Lopez just starts randomly GOAT'ing at this tournament for a week and then nothing else after
Do you remember Dustin Brown ?
I just found out Halep got engaged
roumanian press. Even pictures with her wearing the ring😁
How did Aslan play today? Anyone?
Bad, then okay, then good.
This seems to be becoming a pattern for him lol
Thanks. Glad he won, ngl
I know this sub has a problem with recency bias but I think Karatsev is definitely the favourite for Wimbledon now
He's definitely won more grass court matches than anyone else in the last 20 minutes.
Karatsev is undefeated in tour level grass court matches.
He fought as hard as he could. There is nothing to be ashamed of, Tabilo.
The lion taking some time to get used to grass, he prefers the Savannah
God why I am as proud of Aslan Karatsev as if I birthed him from my own loins
😡Man you better shut your fuck🖕🏼up ok 🤬🤫Hey Stefanos 👋🏼🇬🇷🤡🤢 you want to look 👀 at me and talk? 🗣🦜 You have some rollies 🍬🤮and go emergency toilet 🚨🚑🚽💩 for five minutes ⏰🕰 and then you hit let 🎾⛔️🤦and you don't say sorry 🚫🙏🏼🙄and you think 💭you are good kid? 🤗😇🤣🤡 Look at me 👿🤧🥶 Heh, look at me, hah? 😤 You don't look at me 🥱🥸 He started it. 👉🏻 He started it. 🗣 He started it. 🐦 Yeah he started it. 😳🤣 He said bullshit Russian, 🐂💩🇷🇺 you think this is normal? 🧐🤦🏻♂️I answered him 😙😒 because he doesn't know 🤪🤤 how to fight 👊🏻🤜🏻🚫🤧He's a small kid 🙂👶🏼who doesn't know how to fight 😂🤡If he doesn't say anything 🙊🤐 I have no problem with him. 👍🏻🤙🏻😎🌊 But 👆🏼if he says something 👄with me and wants to fight 🤺🥷 he needs to do it.😤🥴
Whenever I see this, it's my obligation to give it an upvote.
STOP THE COUNT!
Whenever someone says that, I think of a rampaging Dracula which must be stopped.
Thinking about building a grass court at my house. Probably can’t afford it though
Well, at least it's better than Sinner.
The Lion awakens. Run for your life, Alejandro. ¡CORRE, MIERDA!
On grass he's a white kitten at best.. the movement just isn't there
Granted, but it's Tabilo's first ATP match on grass (third overall)... and as a lucky loser.
Karatsev has 4, all in 2015 ;)
Karatsev has 5 (before today), he also played Wimbledon qualies in 2014.
Well, he has tried.
Aslan finally woke up, now pls hold
Lion goes to Belgrade, eats goat. Lion goes to Paris, chokes on cabbage. Lion goes to London, struggles to digest grass.
Grass is boring.
Unpopular opinion apparently
It speaks volumes when you look at Tabilo (24 y.o.) and see he is Chile's No. 2 in the ranking... at No. 171.
And Jarry is making a comeback, but he's yet to be top 300.
I'm sorry... like I hate to make such a controversial, never said before statement... but it is clearly apparent that...
Grass is for cows.
Oh yeah well clay is for horses... or something
Check your history. Clay is for dogs AND pigs. It's been known.
Karatsev can lose to anyone (not disrespecting Tabilo though, he's playing really well on first ATP match on grass)
Did you expect something from a player who didn't play on grass for 6 years?
It's something he and his generation have in common.
Dude grass is nasty. It looks awkward when you can't slide or anything.
You can slide - onto your ass.
Well, I didn't expect Tabilo to remotely pose a threat to Karatsev, especially after losing to Troicki. Hope he can at least steal a set from the Lion.
Karatsev cruising on serve then decides to throw in a game where he hits every forehand in the net.
What was that game, Aslan
Just realized that Novak might be in contention of getting the Roland Garros-Wimbledon double if he keeps this streak alive..unless of course Tennys can stop him...
He's in contention for the Calendar Slam too haha - will be interesting to see who can stop him on grass and how he's feeling by time USO starts (since I firmly believe his performance there rests on his racquet barring circumstances like a Stanimal).
Also the golden calendar slam. Only achieved by Steffi Graf.
Karatsev is Karatsev, really good on grass too. Coming to the net often and finishing those points with finesse
There are many great tennis players but only one GOAT
wish there was a commentator for this Karatsev match
Where are you watching it on? On tennis tv there is a commentator for it
Was there one for The Korda match? I was watching it on tennis tv and didn’t hear one
Yeah there was, you have to press the one that says “Monday live from Halle” that’s where the commentary is otherwise the other separate matches don’t have
Isn't the match on the main Tennis Channel? And it has commentary too. Tennis +1 has the replay of the Sinner match.
I think someone on here said it’s on tennis channel but I’m not 100% sure. I live in Australia so I don’t use those
Looks like Tsit has withdrawn from Halle. Understandable.
It's on Tennis channel
Why is the Karatsev match not on Tennis Channel? Any links that work outside of US? Sportsbay and Utazmice doesn't work where I live.
It is now
Yeah, found it. I was looking at Plus and it wasn't there.
Introducing a player as a 'lucky loser' is very funny to me. Imagine someone doesn't know what it means, they would think the announcer was being really harsh.
Only 5 matches happened in Halle today?
You simply love Viktor "Look at the mark" Troicki
> James Keothavong is one of the best umpires you could possibly get
A 39 year old beats a player called Illya in straights with one tiebreak
Feli and Roger have some camaraderie going
Having won the tournament in 2019.
Why is dr Ivo Karlovic not playing on grass now?
Feli Lopez has a lovely economical way of playing, you can see why he's adapted well as an older man.
Come On Sonego, GRUNTS EVERYWHERE
What's up with thiem? Do u guys think he has a chance to go deep at Wimbledon?
He will be lucky to win two matches.
He didn't really have a chance to go deep at Wimbledon even when he was playing well. Its gonna take him a while to build back up his confidence, and I expect a few more early round losses.
Queens Cub has one of the best backdrops on tour.
Hang on I thought Troicki retired?
He has announced his retirement.
Feli gonna defend his title
Does anyone have recommendations for pros and/or clubs that help put together USTA teams in the socal area? (is there a better place to ask this)? I'm a 3.5-4.0 (self-rated) player looking for coaching/getting into more match play opportunities
Are you in Orange County? I know a coach I can recommend to you for private lessons. I don’t think he puts together USTA teams tho.
I'm in sgv but could I pm you for more info?
Is there a weekly tennis thread where I can post some racquet related questions?
On one hand sad because Agut lost and his Wimbledon run will be tough to defend, but on the other hand...KORDA KORDA KORDA
What a rout of RBA in the tiebreak! good grass-court win for Korda!
Yeah Korda is winning Wimbledon you are right guys. Plus his outfit is really cool
Ok wouldn’t go that far but the guy is really good. Great top 10 win
Edit: I’m dumb and can’t sense sarcasm
Perfect tiebreak from Korda, just absolute perfection. 😍😍😍
Marchenko, Troicki and Lopez all playing at the same time. 2012 here we are
Agut is one if my favorite players. Hope he can win.
BBC trying to keep the same commentary team going for longer than Feli's slam streak.
OKAY, MAYBE HE'LL JUST MAKE THE FINAL.. BUT HE'LL MAKE IT COMPETITIVE
In before he gets dismantled by Deliciano in R1
The last final played at Queen's was between Feli Lopez and Gilles Simon. It feels like tennis has changed a lot since then.
IDK, Feli looks the same and is continuing to kick arse.
Somehow Feli is one of the only late-thirties players still looking reasonably good on the court
That one was a bit of an odd final, given the final prior was Novak Djokovic vs Marin Cilic. Unlikely that Lopez will repeat, though he loves this tournament (Shapo is a tough out). Simon is also playing Halle this year (as he did the prior two years).
And the one before that was Feli Lopez vs Cilic! Continuity.
Chief Twat Inverdale inviting Norrie to join him in snarking at how long Djokovic and Nadal bounce the ball before serving.
Tell you what dickheads, when you’ve won 39 slams between you, maybe then we’ll ask you how the game should be played?
(I get that some people find it annoying etc but Inverdale just boils my piss)
As long as they are in the time limit, bounce as much as they want. But also, rules are rules, gotta follow them. Just because you are a 19-20x slam winners doesn't mean you shouldn't get a warning, then penalties, if you keep going over. Also you shouldn't ever be holding up the server when you're returning.
It always seems like Inverdale is talking specifically to non-tennis fans. I get that commentators try to aim for a broad audience but he lowers the tone too often.
Some of the audience did cheer at it but I guess you get idiots everywhere.
The thing which really bugs me about it is that you get people including him praising their mental strength, then mocking a method that they use to focus their strength. When Novak starts bouncing you can just seeing him gather himself; it’s pure theatre, you’re literally watching one of the most mentally strong athletes exhibit this attribute, then you have this nobody go “LOL 2 MANY BOUNCES LMFAO”
it's just one of those things like grunting where I'm like "get over it by now." no one is original when pointing those things out.
What a nice passing shot from korda
KORDA IS WINNING WIMBLEDON, I DON'T FUCKING CARE! WHAT A PLAYER!
Come on korda hold
Yeahhhh come on sebbie Korda
Korda saves a break point
I know grass is more expensive and difficult to maintain than other surfaces but wouldn’t it be nice to have at least one Masters 1000 event on the grass.
2 years without grass and now we only get 3 weeks of it :(
yea, they should upgrade halle to a 1000
It should be London imo.
halle is better and deserves it more
I disagree. I think it's the opposite.
Would only be feasible if you moved Wimby 2 weeks or so further. Not sure they would like that idea.
Other solution would be moving RG back and that's even less feasible cause of Paris' relationship with rain and all.
Could also just put it after wimbledon
Hm, that would be interesting. Either way a clay masters would have to get removed tho I think, or a hard court one. Basically leaves no rest for the top players who want to attend said masters. Like, for this season, imagine a Masters event one week post Wimbledon.
Would prolly have to end it by July 25th, and Rogers Cup starts basically 2 weeks after that. Would be hell.
My (kind of terrible plan) was remove the Paris masters, and add a grass masters near the end of the season. This would become the optional masters instead of Monte Carlo.
Uh, yeah no offense but that would be insane lol.
Surely a Master's event (with better income and funding) could better afford to maintain grass courts than an ATP250 event?
RBA always gives me Arnold from Total Recall vibes with that vein popping out of his forehead.
Interested to see how Aslan does on grass later. In theory, he should be right at home since there's a lot of grass in the Savannah.
Korda is a better grass court player than clay, hard?
Probably not, I'd wait to see him play a more power player on the grass before calling that
I know he said in an interview, clay used to be his favorite but now it’s hard court.
So that should translate well to grass
Korda plays such mature tennis, I love it
And he looks like he's 45.
Poor thing got most of his Dad’s face...Pete looked 45 in his 20s/30s as well. The Korda girls got some of their mom’s features to balance them out.
Good god Korda. Way to make a statement in the second set
Why? The doubles doesn’t mean much to them, it’s basically practice.
Yay hurkacz and auger-aliassime won the doubles.
Funny how they're playing against each other tomorrow in singles
The pair of Russians they just beat are playing each other too... hate it when that happens
Good first set from Sebi. Did good to break after getting broken back.
Yep. Many young players with talent would have a hard time getting over that. Especially against a top 10 player
How did Roger look today?
Like he's still adjusting to grass from clay
Massive grass court skills from Korda, very impressive
KORDAAA WHAT A GAME!!!
As expected, clay god Norrie is struggling on grass against one of the best grass courters in ARV.
So I see Andy is playing Benoit Paire tomorrow. Is Paire good on grass, or... does it not really matter with him?
Think paire had MP or close against Roger on grass in 2019 so he aight maybe
Big serve, big backhand, comes in to the net a lot... the only way he's giving Murray any sort of challenge is if there's a crowd though
Actually think the grass suits Korda’s game very well. He hits the ball pretty flat off both wings and his serve is more effective.
Am I missing something regarding the flat strokes ? I see him hitting with topspin every time minus the slices
He is hitting topspin, but not a particularly high amount. Most players still hit topspin, even when we say it's flat
Ahhh makes sense. So it’s all about relative topsin
The only players who can hit 100% flat consistently are isner, karlovic and opelka. Because their strike zone is above the net. All the others have to put at least a bit of topspin
That fucking tweeter lob tho
What a way for Korda to break back... down 0-40, then hits a tweener lob and perfect half volley dropper, both for winners
Great sign of maturity for a young player.
He was up a break, lost it, and broke serve again going after being down 0-40, against a top 10 player? WITH A TWEENER LOB!
That. Is. Not. Easy.
Agut broken again, this time from 40-0 up yikes
RBA broken after he was 40:0 up...
Korda gets the break! Back in front! Also as andycake87 said, that tweener was just *chef's kiss*
Did Korda just pull off one of the greatest tweeners of all time? Anyone see that?
I did. Couldnt believe what I saw
GOAT tweener lob
You can tell that Korda isn't all that comfortable on grass yet, hopefully it'll come with experience and time
He's got the game for it though. Takes the ball early and serves big
Definitely has the game for it, once he gets more experience under his belt, he's gonna be a huge threat on grass.
Hell, he already is (because of his game), RBA may be in rough form ATM but he definitely isn't a slouch on grass. The fact the Korda is hanging in there (and actually leading currently) against RBA on grass, despite only having had one prior match on grass, is a testament to that.
Until that tweener lob
[My feelings towards Djokovic these days](https://gfycat.com/delicioushelpfulboutu-ron-burgundy-vince-vaughn-will-ferrell)
Just FYI for North American ATP fans, YES network has matches on until noon.
bett1 should have surrounded the Berlin court with mattresses, like what they did in Cologne last year.
That looked so comfy. And they had a dog.
All tournaments should have a dog.
Missed the sinner match. But losing two tiebreaks seems ridiculous for him already haha
He failed to serve out both sets as well 😓
Hope the expectation doesnt get to him at all
Discussion today so lull. People here today are the true tennis fans (that's what I'll pretend to think lol)
I’m so wrung out from yesterday. Still processing that, lol.
Always like this here when there isn't a grandslam on, hell even Master 1000s don't garner that big of a comment count. Personally, I sort of prefer it this way. Maybe I'm just weird haha
Same. Only time today when it got remotely tribal was when Federer appeared (both the fans and haters!)
