Berrettini looks pretty solid on the grass, serving pretty well and nice touches with drop shots and volleys (from what I've seen so far). Murray competing but not doing too great. EDIT: And he's out
anyone know when del potro is eyeing his return?
He was aiming for Olympics but he also just started practicing like a couple weeks ago after like a third surgery.
I wonder if we'll see a resurgent Delpo at the USO - that'll be nice
Just realized Murray beat a healthy Berrettini in Beijing 2019 in straights, and now they're slated to go again tomorrow at Queens...interesting.
Rublev at a 500 has entered the chat
Man, Halle went from “look at how loaded the draw is” to only Federer, Rublev, and Zverev left as big title contenders and no one would be shocked if Zverev lost his next match.
At this point we might as well accept that the final will be Giron vs Lacko.
At least Queens will be a bit more respectable, Mannarino vs Troicki.
Zverev was always in control of that game tho.
Cant even believe he lost one set lol
Thats the issue with Zverev, he loses matches hes completely in control of
I don't understand, Kyrgios isn't even playing Queens and yet his face is still on a billboard at the tournament as some kind of promotional material....makes no sense at all
He pulled out like a week or so ago. Probably was made in advance.
Mind boggles to think they'd rely on Kyrgios to play tennis.
Fognini has a better record on grass than he does on hard courts and he gets an absolutely cooked Cilic next
I know he hates playing on grass but he could make the semis in this tournament
Cilic what the hell was that. Thanks for making me lose 10 years of life.
Oh nice win and fuck you. Dont play with my heart like that.
[Iga Świątek absolutely destroys a group of small disabled kids!!1 \[not a click-bait\]](https://www.instagram.com/p/CQJWUzZncgQ/)
Cilic should thank the gods that netcord while 3-1* down in the tb somehow landed inside the court. Ofner’s serve disappeared in the end when it mattered most
Finally marin wins!
Is mladenovic - ferro match going to be delayed till tommorow?
How is this match still happening
Fognini? Easy path on *grass*?
We're talking about the guy who loves the surface so much he once said he wanted to "drop a bomb" on a wimbledon court? 😂
Come on now let's be fair, I think it was one of the outside courts
Ah yep you are right, court 14. Statement still stands though haha.
Yes Jack! What a turnaround.
Do all of you keep the matches on at work?
Yes, but on mute
nice try boss
lol I was just curious. I sometimes have the ATP radio on but not the matches.
Cilic: \**wins Stuttgart w/o dropping a set, starts Queens with a set and a break lead\**
Everyone: *could he contend for Wimbledon?*
Cilic: *\*smiles as he gets broken back\* you thought*
dude put on a lot of miles last week, i'd expect him to look better at Wimbledon after a week off
If Cilic manages to keep his form this week and win or get to the final, could he be seeded at Wimbledon or is it too late? He's only 200 points away from 32.
Yes. If Cilic wins / gets to the final, he's seeded...
at the expense of John Isner! Unless Nadal or someone else withdraws.
I think the seeds are based on next Monday’s ranking. Seeds are back to being based on rankings only for the men’s side.
> Seeds are back to being based on rankings only for the men’s side.
How come? Who does that help? I bet "based on ranking" will be beneficial to Federer. Right??
Won’t be beneficial to Federer as he would have been pushed to number 2 seed probably if they stuck with their own method.
But *why* would they abandon *their own method* NOW when “tradition” is their hallmark? Just seems odd. There are no coincidences imo ;-)
They dropped it for 2020 but obviously 2020 Wimbledon’s didn’t happen lol
Thanks for the explanation.
Because Nadal got super mad at them for doing it
I’m sure he wasn’t the only one because their "own methods” were often arbitrary and illogical BUT benefited someone whom they wanted to elevate or assist.
no one between him and 32 looks like they're going to do much of anything in the next two weeks so yes
Surely Wimbledon should take into account the points from the very few grass tournaments leading up to Wimbledon. Cilic being seeded will be a welcome news for the other seeds more than Cilic himself
Cilic on grass has joined the chat
He then decided he wanted to take the scenic route for more practice.
Sinner just finished a doubles match with Lopez and immediately gets working on his serve afterwards on the same court.
Love that he's playing doubles with Lopez on grass - should be great learning for Wimbledon.
20 aces from Shapovalov?!?! Wow.
> "I think there was a smile on all our faces when he came through, let's be honest. Because we thought this was going the distance"
Is Rusedski saying that he wanted Shapovalov to win or that he just thought the match was shit and wanted it to be over?
Probably the latter. You can see clearly on Shapo's face that he knows it was a shitty match.
Absolutely no idea who's winning either of these 500s. Should be a fun week!
Finals will be Giron-Kohlschreiber and Ofner-Draper.
Shapo looks relieved as hell. Man knew he played like ass
Nice TB performance for Shapo keeping composure in both of them and saving a total of 4 set points.
That ball toss still a little ugly
That was just one godawful match. Someone should take these two to the side and teach them how to chip and slice a return. Shapo has completely regressed on all the improvements he has made on returning under Youzhny.
lmao the classic scream at a line judge to win 5 straight points combo
Huh. I was not expecting that TB comeback.
If shapo was playing almost anybody in the top 20 with his level today, he would be toast.
Like in the tiebreakers maybe? He served remarkably well today.
If he played anyone in the top 20 he would've played two 6-6 sets with tiebreakers.
It's been a long time since we've had a grass season so its understandable for people to forget how grass tennis typically works, but yeah, other than maybe Djokovic or Federer, he wasn't getting broken with how he served in this match.
He served well, I’ll give you that. But a better opponent( djoker, fed,med etc) would return more balls, and with his return game today, he would not be able to do much on their serve.
Cilic gonna be scary for early rounds at Wimbledon.
Good old Shapo with a code violation for yelling "you suck" at a line judge.
*proceeds to argue with umpire*
Shapovalov to lines man “YOU SUCK” *drops the set*
Shapo sucks at rapping compared to Moutet
Berrettini-Murray gonna be a super underrated matchup
Andy looked like his 2017 self out there today
2017 wasn't his best year, but he fought his way to a Wimbledon QF that year so I'm excited to see.
But still, Berrettini can blow Andy off the court in 2.
he should blow Andy off the court in 2 but that's what should've happened in Beijing 2019, and yet Andy won in two TBs, my money's on Andy with his grass experience and berrettini's lack of BH
>2017 wasn't his best year, but he fought his way to a Wimbledon QF that year
yes, that's why i said 2017 instead of 2016
Thank you. Hope it goes to third, will help me cure my insomnia
Simona and Petra aren't playing any grass tournament before Wimbledon?
I think Halep will play Bad Homburg
Some tournament put on social media about Kvitova, Halep and Angie being part of the draw. Assumed it was Berlin but since the first two aren't playing it must be the one you told
Overrule and the meltdown strangely woke up Fabio - won all 6 points after that
Berlin draw is fire. Sabalenka Keys, Pliskova Pegula as I mentioned earlier, Kerber Azarenka, Muguruza-Rybakina, Cornet Andreescu, Bencic Martic, Alexandrova Svitolina - I realize I just listed out every 2nd round match besides Kudermetova Samsonova lol (rip Vondrousova).
So the call clearly came after Fognini hit it
Dear god Shapo return a ball, this is horrendous
It's grass to be fair, they're adjusting to it and returning is much harder
Shapo played last week at a grass court tournament
His best return this set has been a weak short ball which Vukic has put away, he hasn't even gotten into a rally. I think it's more than just the grass.
Of course, his returning is something that needs work. Just saying it's harder when it's one of his first matches on grass too
Fognini meltdown after an overrule, that was inevitable
Wasn't into tennis when Shapo just was on the rise in around 2018. Listening to the commentator describing how he was hyped up as the next tennis great then makes me wonder if the hype around Sinner Musetti etc will end in disappointment too
The only hyped up player recently to live up to expectations has been Tsitispas really, everyone else just seemed unable to play at a consistently high level.
At the moment it seems any hyped up player is struggling to live up to it. FAA was hugely hyped 2 years ago and hasn't done much since unfortunately.
It's hard when that extra pressure is added on imo for the player, as everyone is expecting them to suddenly be winning big matches
Wake me up when they get to the second tiebreak
Excellent htting from Lu when Fognini was serving for the match, back on serve
Kasatkina down 4-6 0-3, then wins 9 of the next 10 games to take the lead, up a break in the 3rd
Well, that was tighter than expected. Let's hope Shapo improves for the second set.
Shapo beating Nadal feels like 10 lifetimes ago
It actually almost happened again not too long ago
This returning from shapo🤢🤮
It's definitely his biggest weakness
I’m going to laugh if Shapo loses this tiebreak. It should never have gotten this far.
First time watching Shapo?
It’s sad how much his returning has regressed in the past 18 months or so.
Shaky return shapo vs low ranked strong server makes for really boring matchups.
Watching ATP tennis from the own balcony, that's gotta be so cool
Anyone have a link for the Sinner doubles match?
Let's gooo Kasatkina
Just noticed Pegula and Pliskova are playing each other again, this time in Berlin. Given she's 0-3 this year against her, can imagine Karolina is wondering, how many times?!?!
Shapo returns like garbage on grass. I get that its a quicker surface but cmon man, if you want to be top 10, can’t give away so many free points.
Don't understand how he hasn't broken this guy ranked 200 below him. Maybe the rankings are just garbage info.
The guy seems like a big server on grass but shapo needs to make some improvements to his game, enough is enough with the stagnation.
The guy has a great serve, I'll give him that, but shapo was so lucky to win this at all, let alone in straight sets
His return has always been the weakest part of his game.
I would argue its consistency but return is next up on the list
Does Fabio have a ponytail?
No, it's his bandana
I thought I saw a small ponytail
I saw a stat recently that said Djokovic has beaten the defending champion at a major 8 times, which is the most.
Made me wonder if Rafa and Roger have done it? I know Roger has done it at 2001 Wimbledon and 2012 Wimbledon, don’t know about any other instances.
Djokovic has done it at the following:
* 2008 AO
* 2011 AO
* 2011 Wimbledon
* 2011 USO
* 2015 AO
* 2015 RG
* 2015 USO
* 2021 RG
Nadal at 2008 Wimbledon is the only one I can think of immediately
the most iconic and legendary one
That’s a great one, forgot about that
You forgot 2020 USO.
I get the joke but Novak didn’t win USO in 2019, he retired due to an elbow injury in round 4
Something you’ll never hear again, “the moment the rally gets started Shapovalov becomes the favorite.”
Every once in a while I remember Muguruza won Wimbledon
Humbert: "YESSSSSS! Putain elle est belle celle-là. J'en mets pas une du match..."
This guy kills me
The other day my opponent hit the weirdest shot I've ever seen.
He was serving, and hit the ball on just the top of the frame. It popped up into the air, and I ignored it, assuming it'd not make it over the net. But then it was clearly gonna go into the service box, so I had to run it down like a drop shot. But it had so much side spin on it, when it bounced, it shot off like six feet to the right, parallel to the net. Ace lol

Still feel like shapo will get near the top of the game.
Isn't it a bit of a joke that they put Cilic on Court 1? I know Shapovalov is the second seed but Cilic is a former champion (who literally beat Shapovalov four days ago)
Yeah Cilic deserves Centre Court being a 2 time champion, he's also coming off a title win last week too
Damn what a return
Pliskova vs Pegula again lol
Humbert bro what lol
Who has a better chance of beating Zverev? Humbert or Querrey?
Querrey I think, Humbert is just very hot and cold
I was thinking like 2% vs 1%
Let’s go querrey!!
Andy's gonna go farther than Roger at Wimbledon. I bet one internet point.
Would be great to see Sir Andy make it deep!
So Andy beats Roger in the final?
Fedstans on suicide watch.
If he has to lose to someone, couldn't think of a better option.
How about surprise wildcard Roddick?
I'd allow it. Only time I actively rooted against Fed was in that final.
Humbert squanders match points and hands back the break
Did Sam have match points at all?
Ugo broken when serving for the match *pretends to be shocked*
He definitely let querrey back into the match
Madlad did it to improve his tiebreak record
not feelin this bandana
actually i think it's the haircut
Is anyone watching mugu rn ? How is she doing ?
In the match? Pretty good, but Cirstea never wins against Muguruza, so its difficult to judge on a broader scale. Muguruza forehand game looks great though.
Give the guy a day off cmon
Ugh Andy is a much better person than the big three combined, will miss him when he retires.
lmao what, this comment doesn't make sense, could you please explain
Andy always does that hand through the hair thing when talking to the media.
See I told you all Paire is actually a great guy
I’m crying. You’re crying. We’re all crying.
Andy’s making me cry.
We’ve all been robbed of him with these injuries.
Oh Andy... 😭😭😭😘😘😘
Seeing him choked up saying how much he loves playing tennis... 😭😭😭
I’m gonna cry when he returns to Wimbledon
You mean when he wins it
Andy getting choked up gets me every time.
What are Nadal and Djokovic doing until Wimbledon? I don’t see their names in any of the tournaments.
Djokovic is playing doubles in Mallorca next week.
Nothing from Rafa.
Wait what? where did you get that from? I'm surprise. Djokovic playing double with who?
See my post history. I posted it in the sub a few hours ago. Mallorca organisers have confirmed.
No confirmation yet who he’s playing with but likely Lajovic
Just 6 ue's from Sir Andy...looks promising! ☺️
Thanks for losing, Ben!
Benoit 'i await the fans' Paire gave absolutely fuck all that match
He obviously wasn't talking about British fans
Nice return and returns.
Good first match for Andy, although Paire didn't show too much life. Berrettini will be a real challenge
Job done. Now Berrettini will be the real test
Good lord, I put more effort in waddling to the fridge than Paire did getting down for that backhand
I love Andy and all, but fucking hell all he’s had to do is exist in this match
Yeah and the crowd (who probably don't follow much tennis) most likely think that he's playing amazingly. He played well but Paire is Paire.
“cars without the faff” is the most british thing ever
I have a strong feeling that Lu Yen-Hsun is going to beat Fognini
